The Bound Publishing Course is a comprehensive, 3-month long, certified program designed to give people the skills, network, and opportunity to build a career in book, magazine, or digital publishing.

The Bound Publishing Course is designed for anyone passionate about the publishing industry and eager to build a career in it. This includes:

  1. Aspiring Publishing Professionals: Individuals aspiring to roles like editor, writer, literary agent, marketer, or publicist in book or magazine publishing.
  2. Recent Graduates: Students from any discipline looking to kickstart a creative industry career and gain practical, industry-specific skills.
  3. Career Changers: Professionals seeking to transition into publishing and develop relevant skill sets.
  4. Writers and Creators: Authors, illustrators, or content creators who want to understand the publishing process and better navigate their careers.

There are no specific age requirements, although we do encourage people to only take up this course after a bachelor’s or undergraduate degree. We’re proud to have a diverse group of students, with applicants typically ranging from 21 to 60 years old.

Since we select a limited cohort of 50 participants every year, our application process is competitive.

The application form is open throughout the year. We send out acceptances on a rolling basis between June and August, until the seats are filled. We recommend applying before 15th July to ensure that your application is considered. You can apply here.

We carefully go through every application and identify individuals who demonstrate genuine interest and enthusiasm and can benefit the most from the opportunity.

No, there is no interview process after submitting your application form. Our application process is simple:

Yes, you can. The Bound Publishing Course is completely online and is planned in a way that is accessible to people across geographies. In the previous years, we have had participants from the US and UK. All the sessions take place on weekday evenings and weekend mornings.

As our course is entirely online, there are no additional visa or residency requirements for international applicants; you can participate remotely from anywhere. However, please consider:

  • Time Zone Alignment: All live sessions are in Indian Standard Time (IST). Be prepared to adjust your schedule to attend live classes.
  • English Language Proficiency: A strong command of English (reading, writing, speaking) is essential for full participation.
  • Payment & Fees: Ensure your international payment method is compatible with our system. Your bank may apply additional international transaction fees.
  • Internet Connectivity: A stable and reliable internet connection is crucial for seamless participation.

Course Curriculum and Details

Our live classes are conducted online via Zoom. The timings for the classes are:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM IST
  • Saturdays and Sundays: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM IST

These timings could change to accommodate faculty availability, festivals, etc.

We select a competitive cohort of 50 every year.

The course is divided into four phases:

Phase 1: Foundation: Get a holistic overview of all the aspects of the publishing process from top industry professionals.

Phase 2: Specializations: Choose your career track from two specializations: Book Editing or Marketing and PR.

Phase 3: Recruitment Drive: Interview with India’s biggest publishing and content companies, also known as our recruitment partners.

Phase 4: Capstone Presentation: Test your newfound skills in a capstone presentation where you will simulate the operations of a publishing house.

You will have 13 graded assignments throughout the Foundation and Specialization stages. The course concludes with a Capstone project, where you will apply your learned skills in a real-life simulation. More details are available in our detailed course schedule here.

We encourage participants to attend all the sessions since most of them are interactive and include a Q&A element. However, we understand that some sessions can be missed due to work or personal emergencies. For this reason, we offer access to a limited number of recordings. Since we have over 40 guest faculty sharing their experiences and exclusive insights, we have to safeguard their knowledge. We expect our participants to be respectful and not disseminate any recordings and teaching materials outside the course. Each participant can avail of recordings for a total of 15 sessions during the course. Each recording will be made available for 24 hours.

The course includes sessions on non-fiction and copywriting, pitching to magazines and publications, and building a portfolio taught by expert faculty from Conde Nast, Newslaundry, LinkedIn, Architectural Digest, etc. You can find more info here.

Fees and Payment related

The fees for The Bound Publishing Course are ₹72,000 + GST. These are payable in four instalments.

Our alumni have secured jobs at HarperCollins, Rupa Publications, CACTUS Communications, Notion Press, among others.

We accept payments via credit card, debit card, bank transfer, and UPI through our secure payment gateways.

The fees are payable in four instalments. All instalments need to be paid by 1st September before the course commences.

We offer two to four scholarship seats annually, reserved for students from the Akanksha Foundation. Beyond these, we do not currently offer other concessions or discounts. However, we do provide an installment payment plan.

We require all participants to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure their seat in the course. In case of serious emergencies, we can defer participation to the next year.

Our aim is to provide career assistance during the course and ensure that our participants have access to any jobs and internships that might become available in the duration of the course. We have offered over 80 job openings to our participants in the past. Ultimately, securing a position during the recruitment drive depends on your performance in interviews and tests.
