Women have a rich legacy of storytelling in India. Over the years they have made their mark on Indian fiction, with their spectacular writing, bold voices, and diverse experiences.
This 4-hour appreciation workshop will introduce you to Indian women writers from different geographies, cultures, experiences and imaginations, who are changing the landscape of Indian fiction today. We will be reading and dissecting their work in detail.

The instructor, Michelle D’costa, will provide a glimpse into the minds of some of the most talented contemporary women writers in India, such as Meena Kandasamy, Sharanya Manivannan, Anjum Hasan, Amrita Mahale, Avni Doshi and Rheea Mukherjee. She will help you understand the intricacies of their craft and the themes they choose to portray, such as identity, relationships, place, politics and much more. By reading and discussing these stories together, you will learn to analyze stories like a writer, and learn how to find your own unique writing voice.
